Cast update

5/6/2008
Finally something is officially happening again with The Hobbit movies. You all probably heard the news and wondered why nothing was mentioned here except a short statement. Well, to be honest: I was on holiday. Portugal. And it was a great trip :) Anyway, here are the news:

Guillermo del Toro will be the director of the two Hobbit movies. First it was a rumor, then Del Toro was kind of an official candidate for the job, now he really is it. And although he is a critically acclaimed director, the decision is controversial between fans, as some years ago he still didn't like Hobbits at all. So we can ask ourselves how the change of his opinion came.
Quote Del Toro:
I was never into heroic fantasy. At all. I don't like little guys and dragons, hairy feet, hobbits -- I've never been into that at all. I don't like sword and sorcery, I hate all that stuff. Link
Anyway, he is doing it now and all I can say is: let's hope he does it good and stays true to the book.

• Ian McKellen will be Gandalf again, he said himself. That is of course some really good news. But honestly, did anyone have any doubts about this?

• The same is true for Andy Serkis: he will be Gollum again, at least according to his website. This everybody hoped for and expected, too.

So much for the confirmed cast of the movies. More names should arrive soon.
