The rest of the company consisted of dwarves from the big relationship of Thorin. These were Dwalin (Balins younger brother), Oin and Gloin (cousins of these), Ori, Nori and Dori (remote relatives from the line of Durin) as well as Bifur, Bofur and Bombur (relatives, but not from the line of Durin).
Probably due to discretion Thorin only chose relatives as his companions. Bombur was most likely only a nickname, relating on the huge girth of the dwarf. All these dwarves didn't have a special role and, although reliable, most time stayed in the background.
